Isopropanol

Description An alcohol, commonly known as rubbing alcohol. It is also produced postmortem, along with ethanol and other alcohols. Isopropanol is slowly metabolized to acetone and is about two times as potent as ethanol to produce CNS depressant effects, but less toxic than methanol. In a study, no isopropanol was detected in blood of workers exposed to 470-493 mg/m3 isopropanol in air for 8 hours; however, blood acetone concentrations ranged 4-16 mg/dL. Isopropanol has a blood half-life of approximately 3 hours.
