Glucose

Description A blood sugar. Elevated levels of glucose in blood could be an indication of diabetics. The normal concentration range of glucose is 70-120 mg/dL in serum (or plasma), 65-95 mg/dL in whole blood, < 30 mg/dL in urine, and 30-70 mg/dL in vitreous humor. Postmortem interval related changes have been reported in blood glucose levels, making it difficult to reach a meaningful interpretation. As a result, vitreous humor is a specimen of choice for analysis of glucose in fatalities.

Warnings Based on our CAMI research, postmortem glucose levels above 125 mg/dL in vitreous and above 100 mg/dL in urine could be considered abnormal. Therefore, these levels are reported as positives.
